What is Mariposa’s philosophy?
Mariposa FLC is a non-profit organization. We support practices that honor the intrinsic dignity of each child, caregiver, staff person, and community member at MFLC. We invite all parents and caregivers to participate in school events. Educationally, we follow the children’s developmental cues. In the youngest years, the focus is on establishing emotional bonds, encouraging language, and helping children master their bodies. By the time they are 3 and 4 years old, they are ready for more challenges and exploration opportunities. We support children’s learning in a developmentally appropriate and playful manner.
What role do parents & caregivers play in your program?
Each month there is at least one opportunity for parents and caregivers to participate in programming at Mariposa. Our Growing Readers program is hosted every other month. We have a guest to read aloud to the children and we send home a new book with each program in the family’s language of choice. Our Family Night is hosted in alternate months and allows families evening child care after a short community program about MFLC practices and philosophies. Seasonally, we hold at least 4 Saturday garden days to share the work and produce of our school gardens. We partner with parents and caregivers daily to support the care, growth, and development of their child. We also offer conferences seasonally and are available to meet over the phone or in person when requested.
What kind of meal program do you offer?
We serve all children morning and afternoon snack. Menus feature fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and dairy. We participate in the USDA’s Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and follow all USDA food guidelines.
