MARIPOSA FAMILY STORIES
Jacey, Nina (mom) and James (dad)
Nina has a background in teaching, and upon becoming a mom, she knew she needed to find a childcare provider where her child would feel safe, secure and loved. Affordability was also an issue.
Nina works as the executive director of Leap of Joy, an Austin nonprofit committed to enriching children’s lives through the arts.
Mariposa welcomed Jacey (three years of age) in December 2025. Mom and child both love Mariposa and its program. Nina has enriched Mariposa’s program by offering Leap of Joy services at Mariposa on a once-a-week basis. From Leap of Joy’s mission statement: “Children should learn at a young age to have confidence and self-esteem no matter their physical, social and economic circumstances—not false bravado but a deeper level of belief in themselves.” This type of partnership is a great enhancement to Mariposa’s overall programming. As do most families at Mariposa, Nina and James receive a subsidy for Jacey at Mariposa.

Nina is engaged to James, who holds Jacey in this photo. James works as a fine-finish painter in Austin.
Nina’s message to Mariposa supporters and donors: “Ensuring all students have access to high-quality care and education is essential. Mariposa allows our family to grow and gives every student a place to thrive."
